Denver Botanic Gardens celebrates Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a festival of “welcome” for the souls of the dead. This celebration will feature live entertainment, artists and dancers. Attendees will enjoy a “Sugar Skull” making area, an area where they can create “Papel Picado”, and more. Complimentary face painting stations and a complimentary photo booth will also be on hand.

Crave Dessert Bar & Lounge will open its doors this November, unleashing breakfast and java, tea and scones, wine, beer, cocktails and last but not least, dessert, or course. Most importantly, it will occupy the northeast corner of our Spire high rise.

Mornings at Crave will feature grab-and-go breakfasts and coffee, while the lunches will let you lift your pinky for a classy afternoon tea. Rather than serving traditional teas, Crave will focus on highlighting sweet teas, and teas with a kick to go along with their selection of flavored scones.

If you’re more of a night owl than an early bird, then get ready for some exciting nights to come! The Crave space will morph into a bona-fide dessert bar complete with plated sweets designed for pairings with beer, wine and cocktails. Got beer? Denver does. In fact, over the next few weekends Denver will have hundreds of gallons shipped in from allover the world. Beer Season is back! Beer lovers from around the country will travel from far and wide to attend some of these tasty events. September 16^th the Denver Beer Fest kicks off with the opening of Denver’s Oktoberfest. Beer, music, and a Long Dog Derby, featuring a competing troupe of Dachshunds, will strike everyone’s fancy. Oktoberfest is free to attend and you only pay for the beer you consume, and consume you will, until 2 am when the festival closes. The Denver Beer Fest will also include The Great COntenders event at the Wynkoop Brewing Company, which showcases 50+ medal-winning Colorado brews on September 24^th.

The Great American Beer Festival starts on September 23^rd and is considered to be one of the best beer festivals in the country. With over 200 breweries competing for beer-medal glory this festival is not only about sampling some of the finest beers. The competition is fierce, and to be awarded a gold medal at a festival of this caliber would make any brewery highly reputable. If you are one of the lucky few that bought their tickets back in July before the event sold out, you will have an amazing beer tasting experience, if you are one of the unlucky designated drivers, relax with a free massage, hand-crafted sodas and receive a free gift.

High-rise living is common place in cities like New York, but few people experience that luxury in Denver. The Denver Post recently explored what it is like to live above the clouds by interviewing two SPIRE residents.

They talked to David and Pam Kurth who live on the 41^st floor of the SPIRE. They described their view as priceless:

“The Kurths own an opulent view. They watch helicopters that can hover near eye level. When fog cloaks the city, it might be clear at their level — they look down upon the soupy gloom. As storms charge over the mountains, the Kurths watch the wind and moisture and gray march across the city before slamming into their building.”

On average, the study found that women walk more journey stages on foot than men. However, it also found that women walk shorter distances than men. Men walk more when they are single and have no children, while women walk more once they’ve had children.

Young people (ages 20-44) walk more than older people, with young women (ages 20-44) walking the most. This makes sense as the recent trends show millennials are looking to move into the city as opposed to the suburbs.

The study also found that singles walked more than people in a relationship (regardless whether the couple had children or not). Unsurprisingly car ownership reduces walking, but the richer people are, the more likely they are to walk despite having the option to drive. The research team attributed this to “narrower travel horizons amongst those on lower incomes.”

3 Days of Phish

The jam band legands Phish will end their summer tour in Denver with a three-night blow out at Dick’s Sporting Goods over Labor Day Weekend. Camping will be allowed on the soccer fields next to the stadium if you plan on staying for multiple days.

Rockies vs Diamondbacks

The Rockies take on the Diamondbacks at Coors Field during the holiday weekend. Catch the special matinee game on September 5^th and celebrate Labor Day the American way with baseball and hot dogs. Buy tickets early as holiday games tend to sell out quickly.

Free Day at Denver Art Museum

The Denver Art Museum is one of Denver’s best attractions, and thanks to SCFD and Target, Saturday September 3^rd, you can see it for free. Don’t miss the Marvelous Mud exhibit, which is a multimedia celebration of clay. It includes hands-on activities which are fun for all ages.

Fireworks at Elitch Gardens

End your summer with a bang! Play in Elitch Gardens Theme park all day on Sunday, September 4th and then at night, experience the biggest and brightest fireworks display.

Colorado’s largest and longest continuously running balloon festival is held in Colorado Springs every Labor Day. It’s a great event for families and admission is free.

Telluride Film Festival

For nearly 40 years, this film festival has been drawing stars and cineophiles to Colorado. The festival starts September 2^nd and runs until September 5^th. Knock shoulders with celebrities like George Clooney and Martin Scorsese and watch movies that are sure to make the Oscars next year.

Colorado State Fair

It’s the last weekend of the Colorado State Fair. Head to Pueblo to be delighted by rodeos, fried foods, music, and rides.

Denver can be a foodie’s paradise with incredible chefs and restaurateurs.
