Smash Putt.. Art and Fun Meet for the Return of the Miniature Golf Apocalypse!

One of the most enjoyable things about writing the SPIRE blog is sharing with our residents and neighbors any new or exciting events happening around the great city of Denver.  Sometimes those events are within the scope of the arts which coincides nicely with SPIRE’s location in the heart of the Denver theater district.  Other times the events are simply fun…  a concert, a haunted house, a party or any of the hundreds of events that keep Denverites entertained throughout the year.

But this event — recently highlighted in the Denver Post article Smash Putt is killer* fun (*waiver required) — offers BOTH!  This is no ordinary putt putt.  Smash Putt is intended to push the barriers of creativity just as an art piece… one where you never know what the obstacles for your putting shot might be.  It operates as an exhibit and will be here in Denver through February 6th.  Described as a mix of art, geek inspired technology, and pure imagination,  some shots are dang near impossible… but more than entertaining enough for you to enjoy trying.

I haven’t been yet but it’s on my To Do list before the Smash Putt experience exits Denver.

Here is an excerpt from the Denver Post Article about how Smash Putt was inspired…

Franklin-Ross dreamed up Smash Putt on a road trip a few years ago when an ex-girlfriend introduced him to her nontraditional mini-golf rules. On his way back to Seattle, he drew up a basic business plan for “the show,” as he calls it, while sitting in the cafe at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver — and he knew at that point that he would one day bring his collective’s creation back to Colorado.

“I realized that there was a lot of potential for mini golf, and that there was a lot of potential for the group of artists I work with in Seattle to express themselves in situational art and robotics and electronics via mini golf,” he said.

Colorado is a relocation favorite… and we all know why

We all know that Colorado is a wonderful state.   Many of us relocated from another state to enjoy Colorado’s incredible weather, the beautiful mountains in our backyard, and of course the incredible city of Denver.

So it came as no surprise to read in the Denver Post that Colorado trails only Texas as a relocation destination, according to a report released Monday by Allied Van Lines.

Here is a quick blurb from today’s Denver Post article…

Analysts cited Colorado’s quality of life and relatively low unemployment rate as reasons that more people are moving to the state than are moving out.

We also thought this was a nice quote about the great entrepreneurial spirit in our state…

“Colorado has a very entrepreneurial atmosphere that attracts the interest of out-of-state corporations looking to move facilities into our state to take advantage of the great workforce, the lifestyle desirability and the business-friendly atmosphere,”

With so many great and creative businesses in our neighborhood, we know this spirit is booming.  Many such businesses will be opening their doors right at the base of SPIRE.

SPIRE, located in the heart of Downtown Denver and the theater district has become home to many of these new Colorado residents.  With a terrific location and amenities such as two pools, two hot tubs, fitness center, private theater room, sports zone, 24 hour front desk, and multiple lounges it’s a great way to enjoy the Colorado and Downtown Denver lifestyle.

Get Ready for Downtown Denver Fireworks!

We want to share the details about Denver’s upcoming Fireworks display with all our SPIRE residents and neighbors. Just one of the great advantages of living downtown… no commute for the many great holiday events. This year the Downtown Denver Partnership shared that the best viewing should be from the 16th Street Mall, just footsteps from SPIRE.  (You might want to make friends with those SPIRE residents who have that spectacular City view for the absolute best view of the Fireworks in the city.)

Here are the details from the DDP Website.

The sky will once again sparkle  over the 16th Street Mall this New Year’s Eve with the New Year’s Eve Fireworks Downtown, presented by the Downtown Denver Partnership.  Co-sponsors of the display are VISIT DENVER and the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District. As part of the Partnership’s Winter in the City program, the two spectacular fireworks shows will occur at 9 p.m. and Midnight, taking place simultaneously at two undisclosed sites along the 16th Street Mall. It is recommended that viewers stand along the 16th Street Mall for optimal viewing.

Penny Parker focuses on B-Cycle and Real Estate

Penny Parker of the Denver Post recently covered the great trend of B-cycle with Real Estate.  With the bikes in hibernation for the winter, different real estate companies are preparing for the Spring release of the bikes.  Want to know the details for B-cycle’s March launch

Memberships start March 1 when the B-cycle fleet awakes from hibernation. The program was put on hiatus for the winter in part due to weather conditions, and to give organizers time to “tweak” kinks in the program, such as touchy touch-screen technology, and somewhat confusing instructions.

SPIRE is proud to be a supporter of B-cycle and to have one of their stations right outside our front door.  We congratulate them on a great first year!

Soaring Looks in Denver Architecture

The Denver Post recently had a great article highlighting some of the great and soaring looks in Denver Architecture and Design.  Both SPIRE and our friends at B-Cycle were among those mentioned.   Here is their blurb about SPIRE…

Spire

14th and Champa streets

Architect: RNL Design

Signature: It’s all in the shape, 41 stories of long and lean.

In any other city, this might be just another glass condo tower. But in a downtown that has seen so few skyscrapers go up lately, it’s a polished reminder that we are indeed a modern metropolis and that Downtown is the place to be.
