SPIRE is pleased to host Winter Whites on Thursday, January 12 from 6-8 pm.

Have you seen the “sunlight” rise is Downtown Denver?

Heres a recap about a cool piece of public artwork:

“Each night, a projected sun rises on the face of The Minoru Yasui Building in Downtown Denver. As the night progresses, the image climbs up to the top of the east facade. The projection continues throughout the night and sets as the real sun rises. SUNLIGHT is entirely solar powered. This unique light mural uses actual sunlight to render the sun.” Synopsis from the Artist, Adam Frank.

Commissioned by the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs, SUNLIGHT, by Adam Frank was officially unveiled at the end of 2011. The piece projects a computer simulation of the sun rising and setting overnight against a city office building downtown. It is timed to rise when the actual sun sets.

You can find the work projected on the east side of the Minoru Yasui Plaza Building, 303 W. Colfax Ave.

A dedication ceremony occured at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building, 201 W. Colfax Ave. The ceremony coincided with the 2011 Winter Solstice.

About Adam Frank:
