Whew, last weekend was busy.  With more than 300+ visitors to our SPIRE Summer Open House event it was an exciting weekend of building tours, free yoga classes, and free Jamba Juice.  Word of mouth about the many benefits of SPIRE must be spreading and we want to thank everyone who stopped by.  We also want to apologize.  It was such an incredible turnout that at about 3:00 pm we ran out of Jamba Juice.  We know some of you missed out on those delicious smoothies and we’d like to make it up to you. The first 100 people to stop by our Sales Center this weekend will receive a certificate for a free Classic Jamba Juice with a free boost.

1. May 28-30th – “The Downtown Denver Arts Festival is dedicated to supporting and showcasing Colorado visual artists. Downtown Denver Arts Festival holds its annual premier event each Memorial Day Weekend at the Denver Pavilions. The fine art exhibition features over 135 of Colorado’s finest visual artists with over 150,000 people expected to attend.  The Arts Festival is open to all Colorado Artists.  
2. All weekend long and beyond, you can enjoy the Body Works And The Science of the Heart Exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.  “BODY WORLDS & The Story of the Heart, an all-new exhibition, reveals—through the lenses of anatomy, cardiology, psychology and culture—how the heart nourishes, regulates and sustains life.”
3. May 29th and May 30th – Colorado Rockies vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Take in a ball game on a beautiful Memorial Day Weekend and enjoy the sunshine at Coors Field.
4. Sunday, May 30th – JAX Fish House Crab Boil.  This one needs to be booked at least 48 hours in advance so don’t wait until the last minute if you want to spend Sunday enjoying one of the best outdoor patios downtown.  Memorial Day Weekend is a perfect time for a Crab Boil, and those from the East Coast can vouch that on a sunny summer day it’s one of the true delights you can enjoy with friends getting about as messy as possible.  Old Bay anyone?
5. Monday, May 31st – The Bolder Boulder:  Not only is this one of the most famous Colorado running events…. it doesn’t require a car drive.    The beauty of living downtown is that RTD has prepared for this event for city dwellers.  Just hop on the light rail down to Market Street station (or walk) and take a bus up to Boulder with other runners.  This avoids traffic and you can relax after your 10K run all the way home.  Known for the many bands, belly dancers, and other sights on the run itself, it is a Colorado favorite.
6. May 29th, 30th, and 31st – Old South Gaylord Street Event.   Visit Old South Gaylord Street for their 31st year of a family-oriented street festival with lots of different hand-made crafts, food and entertainment for ALL ages. Visit their site for more information.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service.   So there is one other event for this Memorial Day weekend list that is very special.  The  Denver Memorial Day Parade will be held on May 29th at 10:00 AM.  Here is a link for more information.

All of us at SPIRE love the traditions of Denver from the parades through the streets of downtown Denver to the many celebrations of our sunshine filled city.  That’s why last week SPIRE hosted the pre-party kickoff of the Derby Party.  For those of us at SPIRE, part of the fun of these events is to see the building filled with energy and laughter.  The club lounge filled with the sounds of a DJ mixing beats, the sports lounge broadcast March Madness games and highlights, and the outdoor fire pit and amenity deck each filled with happy celebration and the energy of the great residents of Denver.  In the crowd were many future SPIRE homeowners who enjoyed relaxing in their new home knowing that this was just the first of many evenings they would get to spend in the lifestyle of Downtown.

The event was capped off with a drawing to win a Schwinn Motor Scooter from Spire! The grand prize winner was Janette Juan who celebrated in the club lounge to the cheers of the room as her name was drawn and read.

Folks keep talking about the great changes that are happening downtown. New restaurants, entertainment venues, and businesses are opening every day and there are more choices than ever for our future SPIRE residents to enjoy. It’s no accident. A great deal of planning and design is underway to enhance the heart of our downtown. One of those efforts is moving from the planning stage to the action stage this summer as construction begins on the 14th street initiative plan.

The 14th Street Initiative is part of the $14 million large scale improvement project surrounding SPIRE’s great location in the already bustling Theater District. How are things getting even better? Here are some highlights..

…sidewalks will be expanded, encouraging outdoor seating and ground floor shopping and dining uses that will bolster the experience one has when walking down the street. Key elements include the addition of about 200 trees, as well as new flower planters, better “wayfinding” signage, crosswalk bulb-outs, improved pedestrian lighting, decorative street corner monuments, bike racks and enhanced maintenance. A dedicated bicycle lane will be added in the street and on-street parking will be retained.

14th Street is becoming known as the “Ambassador Street” due to the diversity of visitor-oriented uses found along this corridor, including the Colorado Convention Center, the Denver Performing Arts Complex, the Hyatt Regency at Colorado Convention Center, and four other new or recently-constructed hotels. Altogether, $1.5 billion in public and private investments have been made along the corridor since 2002. The new streetscaping project will build on these investments to strengthen this new identity. The district covers the entire the 12 block length between Market Street and Colfax Avenue and extends approximately one-half block on either side of 14th Street.

Watching the design and plan for these improvements was wonderful, but the real excitement is in knowing it will become a reality with construction starting this summer. Those outdoor seating venues and streetscape changes are part of creating an incredible pedestrian experience and providing space for restaurants and other venues to create more places for downtown residents to enjoy meals, conversation and laughter. These are gathering places that provide the life and energy of a city and we are honored to have this project right outside SPIRE’s front door.

Design after Dark | SKIN at SPIRE

Movers, Shakers, Statement Makers…

That is how the Denver Art Museum’s Design after Dark describes the attendees of this magical and eye enthralling event.  Design after Dark | Skin is a gathering  of Denver’s “prominent names in architecture, interiors, graphic design, industrial design, advertising, and fashion”,  along with those who appreciate and are interested in these arts for annual fund raising to benefit the Denver Art Museum’s Department of Architecture, Design and Graphics.

What better place for this group to hold an event than within the glass walled architecture and contemporary design of SPIRE.   This past Friday, January 15th, Design after Dark | SKIN gathered for a celebration with several showcased exhibits from member Architects and Designers.  Laughter and cheer flowed through this creative and visionary group who had the opportunity to enjoy each others’ company in a celebration of the arts along with the showcase exhibits.

Ah, energizing the community.  The design and urban planning put into SPIRE and its location is a study of art and function energizing the community.  As such, it was a pleasure and an honor to host and sponsor an event for Design after Dark at SPIRE.  The Theatre district that SPIRE calls home (as will its residents) rests in the heart of Denver and in the center of a celebration of the Arts.

All of us at SPIRE would like to applaud those creative minds who help inspire great designs and art pieces to spark our minds and hearts.  One of the wonderful aspects of development within a city as wonderful as Denver is bringing together these creative forces to create a home for so many people.  A city is, in itself, a piece of art with many components.  Every new building, every restaurant, theatre, and museum is a component in the magical canvas of life in that city.  We feel greatly honored to share this canvas with so many wonderful, creative, and inspiring individuals.  So if you haven’t had a chance to see the many sights and displays of art within the Denver Art Museum’s department of Architecture, Design and Graphics we encourage you to take a break from your regular routine and set aside a few hours to wander and enjoy all the Museum has to offer.  We also invite you to visit SPIRE for a tour and experience another demonstration of the skill and artistic talents that our team of architects, designers, and visionaries put into the newest addition to Denver’s skyline and the canvas that is life in this wonderful city.

SPIRE Denver wins award for project of the year at the Rocky Mountain Real Estate Expo


Happy Thanksgiving Denver from all of us at SPIRE!

This time of year is so very special. It’s a time to gather with family and friends, a time to share one’s home with others, and a time to give thanks. All of us at SPIRE are thankful for so many things this year. We are thankful for the terrific team of Architects, Construction Experts, Designers, and others who helped make SPIRE a reality.  We are thankful to be a part of the skyline in such an incredible city. And we are thankful for our many future homeowners, retail tenants, and neighbors who are will be filling SPIRE with their energy (and their own dinner parties, Thanksgiving or otherwise).  One of the wonderful benefits our homeowners will enjoy is a state of the art fitness facility on the 9th floor.  Eat that extra piece of pecan pie guilt free knowing you can work it off the next day without ever venturing outside in the cold.  Cheers to that!

Now I know that many folks are less than pleased with this winter wonderland. The roads are crowded and slow. Commuting is a pain. After a stressful drive home the idea of going out to dinner or for groceries may be less than appealing.

Unless you call downtown home.

One of the many benefits to life downtown is freedom from your car. Walk to work and stop at your favorite warm and cozy coffee shop on your walk. Jump on the light rail (just steps away from SPIRE) and read the paper while you enjoy your coffee. Smile.

Larimer Square, one of my favorite places in the city, will be hosting the 5th annual La Piazza dell’Arte this Sat and Sun.  The event will feature professional, amateur and student artists who will transform Larimer Square into a beautiful street museum of bright and colorful chalk art images over the course of two days. Ok, it’s not exactly the Tour de France but it is for a good cause. City Park is hosting, The Noble Energy-sponsored cruiser crit, with teams competing to see who can do the most laps around a short course in 24 minutes, is the final event of the Fred Prindle Memorial City Park Bike Race — a day-long series of contests. Why 24 minutes? “We needed a catchy name,” says organizer Trish Downing. “We’re not looking for the super-competitive athlete, but for people who are looking to have fun on their cruiser bikes.”

It costs $120 to enter, and each team can have up to four racers, but only one bike — and while any kind of bike is permitted, only cruisers and hand cycles are eligible for prizes (including one for best costume).

 MY PICK - Are You Ready for Some Football?!

Well, it’s not quite Football season yet but this Saturday is your chance to head on down to Invesco to meet the new team, (cheerleaders included), participate in great activities and even run through the sprinklers on the Field!!! (sadly, that last one is only for kids).

The “Ultimate Broncos Experience” is back! The seventh annual Denver Broncos Fan Fair returns to Invesco Field at Mile High on Saturday, June 6. One day, extended hours, all the players and coaches! Fan Fair is fun for Broncos fans of all ages and will once again be packed full of events tailor-made for those that bleed orange and blue.

Event times are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tickets on sale through Ticketmaster outlets and the INVESCO Field at Mile High box office (Mon.-Fri. 8am – 5pm). A limited number of “family five packs” with tickets for five people to enjoy cost just $40. Individual passes cost $20 for adults and $10 for children ages two to 12, while children under two get in free.

A portion of the proceeds from Fan Fair will benefit Denver Broncos Charities.

Like past years, every Broncos player and coach is scheduled to attend with notable alumni, the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders and Miles the mascot. The ultimate Broncos experience will have a full schedule of events that will include autograph sessions, photo opportunities, Q&A sessions, on-field activities, memorabilia booths and much more!

“We look at this event as a Broncos holiday of sorts,” said team owner Pat Bowlen about Fan Fair. “Fan Fair gives us the chance to connect with our fans on a completely new level. That’s something everyone within the organization is very excited about continuing.

With several autograph areas and photo opportunities ongoing throughout the day, fans are sure to meet their fair share of Broncos personalities.  When fans want a break from gathering player signatures, they can relax in the Game Zone or check out the valuable team history in the Broncos Museum.

And what do we have for kids? Things like their very own on-field Kid Zone full of Broncos interactive inflatables and a kids-only autograph station.

“We’ve tried to create an event that captures the essence of what it means to be a Broncos fan,” said Greg Carney, Vice President of Marketing for the Broncos.

Parking for the Denver Broncos Fan Fair will be in lots A, B, and C located on the south side of the stadium. Disabled parking is located in lots B and C along the Sports Legends Mall. Parking lots will open at 8:00 a.m. and parking will be FREE to everyone attending.
