Hey everyone out there on the information super highway!
This blog marks the first ever weekend event write-up by your true Denverite, Lauren. If you haven’t been keeping up with us here at Spire, we’re not only dedicating ourselves to providing the best upscale living in the city but we’re now bringing you the latest in what Denver has to offer all at the click of your mouse.
Enough babble already, let’s get to the good stuff. With Memorial Day weekend practically here, it’s time to find out what to do around this beautiful city.
-
Feeling extra patriotic? What’s better than soaking up the sun and watching high school marching bands and baton twirlers fullfill your adolescent dream of starring in a parade? (thanks a lot mom for never letting me learn to play an instrument). Head over to Civic Center Park on Sat morning for the annual Memorial Day parade, starting at 10 a.m.
- Paning for Gold-den Nuggets! This just in!!!! The Nuggets are legit this year. Go ahead, jump on the band wagon and get to the Pepsi Center for game 3 of the Western Conference finals Vs. Kobe and the Lakers. If Saturday night is anything like the rest of the series, you should get a discount on your seat because you won’t need much of it. Go NUGGS! www.pepsicenter.com
- Did he just make a funny?! If you’re anything like me, you’re always up for a good laugh but have absolutely no comedic sense yourself. Spare your friends and loved ones the bad, “knock knock”, jokes for an evening and go check out Steve McGrew at Comedy Works this Sunday night. www.comedyworks.com
- Goaaaalllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!! Looking for an inexpensive way to entertain the family Sat night? Head over to Dicks Sporting Goods Park to watch your Rapids take on Seattle…..tickets start at just twelve bucks! If you’re lucky, you might even understand what’s happening in the game. www.coloradorapids.com
- Anyone up for quilting? No, not you! We’ll save the sewing circle for another time. Take a trip to the Performing Arts Center for the opening of, “Quilters”, a musical inspired by the diaries of real life American Pioneers. www.denvercenter.org
- Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks, I don’t care if….. you don’t even like the game, nothing says Memorial Day weekend like taking in the sights and the sounds, (better yet, the food), of a ball game. Your Rockies take on the Dodgers on Memorial Day at 1:10pm……guaranteed to be a good time, even without Manny being Manny. www.coloradorockies.com
MY PICK:
- Bring out your inner Picasso….Amidst your BBQ plans, try stopping by the Downtown Denver Arts Festival at the Pavilions. The Festival lasts all weekend long featuring over 125 of Colorado’s best artist. The streets surrounding the Pavilions will be blocked off all weekend long, making room for the top paintings, sculptures, glass, jewelry and other exhibits this city has to offer. Get this! The artists have to compete to even have an exhibit; over 200 artists submit their work for review by a jury to decide whether or not they can be a part of the festival. If that doesn’t guarantee the best of the best, then I don’t know what does. Where’s Simon Cowell when you need him? downtowndenverartsfestival.com www.downtowndenverartsfestival.com
Well, that does it for this weekend! Stay tuned each week for the latest and greatest events that will get you wiping the drool off your desk and get you Spired up for the weekend!
Until next time,
Lauren
